...Although there are many modest visionary environments in Britain, none has the size or impact of such wondrous creations as the Palais Ideal, Picassiette or the Watts Towers. However, there are just a few that have a creative power and a scale that make them compelling experiences. Perhaps the best known are
John Fairnington Sr's Concrete Menagerie in Northumberland and George Howard's shell garden at Southbourne, Dorset. Both these creators have sadly passed away so it is refreshing to discover another British environment that is still in progress and has its own powerful characteristics and effect on the visitor.
