The Iranian self-taught artist Davood Koochaki died in Tehran on June 20, 2020, of pancreatic cancer, at the age of 81, leaving behind one of the most distinctive bodies of work to have emerged internationally in the related art brut and outsider art fields in the past several decades.

Jim Massey has been a folk art collector for over 30 years. In 2012, he gifted his collection to Dave Clark and Lisa Piper who run the Small B&B cafe in downtown Pittsboro, with the understanding that a museum will be opened at the site.

In "Fire! The Resurrection of Mr. Imagination", 130 works that were burned in the 2008 fire that destroyed the artist's home are on show.
