Medaille de la Ville de Paris 2007

In May 2007, at a special presentation ceremony held at the Museum Halle Saint Pierre in Paris, the city's Deputy Mayor Christophe Caresche awarded silver medals to Nek Chand and to Raw Vision editor John Maizels.

The Medaille de la Ville de Paris is awarded to nationals of any country in recognition of contributions to international culture and took place during the large exhibition of Nek Chand's sculptures at Halle Saint Pierre.

In his acceptance speech John Maizels was critical of the dumbed down English art scene and contrasted it with the integrity found in Outsider Art and also with the international cultural contribution made by France.

Nek Chand was described as one of the world's greatest living artists.

Best Arts Coverage 2006

Raw Vision magazine was declared the winner of the category Best Arts Coverage for 2006 in the annual Utne Independent Press Awards. Utne Reader describes itself as 'a leading voice for independent thinkers, engaging with the most visionary thinkers and doers of our time'. In gaining this award, Raw Vision was described as being Ooutstanding and essential' in its field, with Oinnovative, thought-provoking perspectives often ignored in mass media', and offering a unique opportunity to artists who would not normally be subject to worldwide exposure.

Raw Vision was saluted for its ability to provide international Outsider and related arts coverage with a vibrant, colourful presentation of articles, described by Utne as 'a visual feast akin to Christmas pudding'. 'There isn't any other publication that comes close in terms of timely information about the field' says Tom di Maria, director of the Creative Growth Art Center.

'In gaining this award, Raw Vision is seen as Ooutstanding and essential' in its field, with 'innovative and thought-provoking perspectives often ignored in mass media', and offering a unique opportunity to artists who would not normally be subject to worldwide exposure.'
